Abstract:   (5 Views)
Introduction: Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in men and the fifth most common cause of cancer-related death in men. Prostate cancer is a multifactorial disease and diet is one of the factors that influence the onset of this disease. Recent studies have shown that the Mediterranean
diet can be used as a tool to prevent the occurrence of this disease. Therefore, the present study was conducted to investigate the role of the Mediterranean diet in prostate cancer.
Methods: The present review study included searching scientific articles in Persian and English databases. Using relevant keywords such as «Mediterranean diet» and «prostate cancer», articles published from 1392 to 14.3 in Persian databases and from 2014 to 2025 in international databases
PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, ProQuest, Elsevier, Science Direct, Magiran, SID, IranMedex and Irandoc were reviewed. The inclusion criteria for the study were publication of articles in English or Persian and compliance with the study objective, and the exclusion criteria were unavailability of full
text of the studies. From among the initial 1216 articles, after applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 15 articles were selected for the final analysis using the PRISMA checklist.
Results: The results of the studies show that the Mediterranean diet may be associated with a reduced risk of prostate cancer and its progression. The bioactive compounds found in this diet, such as lycopene and omega-3 fatty acids, play an important role in these effects. Also, evidence suggests that
following this diet can improve the quality of life of patients with prostate cancer.
Conclusions: Despite the positive results, more research is needed to accurately understand the mechanisms of the Mediterranean diet›s effect on prostate cancer, in order to provide comprehensive evidence and provide a basis for future research to develop effective strategies for the prevention and
management of prostate cancer.
Keywords: Mediterranean diet, Prostate cancer, Prevention.
